Question about officers and Royal liners.

Late to the party, but I find this to be a handy reference to the crowns for crowned monograms (as opposed to unique cyphers for specific royals). I've seen a lot of these is various caps I have/had. It was probably pretty important when everyone around you was wearing the exact same outfit...

As mentioned somewhere above, the closed crowns were reserved for royalty, electors, grand dukes and the like.

We note some of these same cyphers on the shoulder straps & epaulettes
GGR#1 has the Russian crown
GGR#2 has the Austrian crown

That's right. A mark of ownership or attribution, like name tag or names engraved in the shells of enlisted spikehelmets.
But Wilhelm Freiherr Von Willisen didn't need monograms and initials to identify his helmets. Offered in an auction room a few years ago, I pushed as hard as I could, but I had to give in before the sum, which was awarded to my opponent.

Cork? Our friend Karel-Adler-had the one of Prinz Alfons von Bayern. Cork. The Wappen was styled in cork as well. The star fasteners as well.
