These rarely come up, looks original...isn't this an EM IR 73 plate?

You think it is good ?

I am noooo expert but the paint on the plate looks a little questionable .

I know they painted the wappens but wouldn't this rare state have a zinced or what ever metal they used ?

I would love to have one but he is a little high even if it is kind of scarce.

I just missed an Officer's on ebay not 10 mins ago for about $1,000 less.

I knew I should have gone higher

Here is the Officer's that just cooked off.

The above is correct
The officers is an I R 88
Looks like a real good deal ;
IF
from the photos that he posted there
is no way to tell if there are extra holes in the body
also sometimes the screw posts have been moved
to fit the holes in the body
I like to remove a plate for inspection
before buying
I am not much of a buyer for EBay helmets
sight un -seen

so if the buyer got a correct helmet for
that price he did well

You can see that the plate is over painted brass. There is a tiny flake on the back of the plate that exposes the metal under the plate .

Strange that the helmet body has been cleaned and maybe blacked and there was a great effort taken not to disturb the dust under the plate.

Maybe to much effort .

Am I off base ?

There seem to be a lot of problems
for the asking price
Spend $ 2,500 and still needs a lot of work
If you are really interested
ask the seller to apply a magnate to the front plate
then ask him if the front plate attracts the magnate

also extra holes in the body ; why ??

I have one of those helmets
will see if I can post it in time

enlisted pre war and Feldgrau

sorry for the lack of quality on the officers helmet . It is in a case and I did not get a good shot
I moved

F R 73 ; my mistake . I asked a friend to buy this for me without me seeing it
It was my mistake not his . Even Brian could not get this one back to were it should be .

Rear visor on the officer JR 88 has been restitched by an amateur...large stitches. That means that the rear spine has been removed at some time. I am wondering about some finish work being done as well. Nice wappen though. Wonder if the front visor was done the same way? That is a lot of money for a wappen and a couple of Prussian kokarden etc. That wappen could fit on many Prussian officers in much better condition. My opinion only.
Regarding the M15, I see no brass under the paint...just steel. The plate has poor details which suggests late war production when the dies were wearing out. The starting price is crazy.

So, if the dies were wearing out, would that cause a 'strike through' in which the metal was cut leaving a slit in the plate? There are at least two of those. There's also a bubble by the 'Waterloo' on back (shoddy soldering? Electro-formed?). NO RETURNS. To me, it looks dodgy, at any price.
