Rare M1873 Bavarian Feld Gendarme helmet

Just got this one and I am super excited, this is a very rare and hard to find variation of a Bavarian helmet. What makes it so rare is the way the spike assembly works for attaching to the body of the helmet. Has a long bolt with a small base plate that attaches with a small wing nut. it is a M1873 OR or most likely a NCO helmet as it has officer liner and visors. Has Reservist wappen on front which is deeply imbedded into front of helmet so been there for a long time, no extra holes.

There are pictures and diagram of this type of helmet shown in the great book, "Die Helme der Koniglisch Bayerischen armee 1806-1918 by Walter Seibold and Gerd Schultz" a must have book if you collect Bavarian helmets. see pages 74 and 75.

thanks

James

Very nice indeed ! I have never seen a spike assembly like that before, awesome.

Congratulations on this rare find James! (y) :)

It's the first time I have seen one of this type, aside from the pictures in the Bavarian helmet reference book.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Thanks for posting James.
I have such a point and never knew where it was from.
I've always kept it.
He is also a little heavier than usual but has the age, so I didn't know what he was from.
Until now !!

Thanks again

I was thinking about the Reserve Wappen. From my understanding the Gendarmerie were all ex-soldiers. Do you think an ex-Reservist Might have transferred to the Gendarmerie and kept his badge? That would make sense to me. Adds some more character to the helmet as well.

Yes, Peter that is what I am thinking!

Thanks to all for the nice comments!

Congratulations on an incredible addition to your amazing collection. The pictures and information about the make up of this Bavarian Pickelhaube are greatly appreciated and add to my education on all things Pickelhaube.
Best regards
John
