As we all know, the German Army went into WW1 with well marked equipment, uberzug and helmets. I have read that around 1915, they began to realize that these regimental markings were giving Allied intelligence useful information as to exactly who was facing them in the opposing trenches, who had attacked etc. Consequently, we find many un marked pieces in our collections. I think that this M15 Prussian Arty helmet shell shows evidence that there was also an effort to remove markings from the rear visors of helmets. I have seen this many times before but I always thought that it was just some dealer trying to mess with things. Looking at this helmet today and preparing it for restoration I had another idea and thus this posting. Do any other members have helmets with marks like this which indicate that the old Regimental markings were sanded off?? Brian
