Regimentals now selling lot of Weitz spiked helmets

Same goes for helmets that were on sale at Kube's, they turn up a bit later at Weitze's. So the question is: what is the relation between these dealers. You won't make me believe Weitze is a buyer like all others. Just compare the auction results and what they are sold for (or at least offered for) somewhat later. I won't say no more, but I have an idea on how this works.

Another comment perhaps, and I am certainly not trying to send a torpedo on certain dealers, but just observe the prices on any helmet during a certain period at Regimentals: when time goes by, the helmet becomes more and more expensive. A typical example of basic inflation practice: price goes up without any added intrinsic value, its like a balloon that becomes bigger and bigger but in the end it is just filled with.....thin air.

I agree with you guys, this is fishy... I just recently noticed that Regimentals had on sale that Wurt. green painted 'wartime' haube--can't miss that one; also discussed here--and noticed the price was much lower than originally offered for on Weitze...
Anyway, such practice reflects poorly on these dealers as they still don't realize the power of the internet/globalization and the fact WE'RE WATCHING THEM! :army:

P.S. Did anyone see that Hessian Infantry OR M15 Pickelhaube they had on for less than 24hrs? It was selling for slightly over $1,800... Didn't last long although it looked like it had a fake chinstrap... And speaking of chinstraps, it's 'funny' how most, if not all, of the OR helmets on Regimentals are complete from tip to toe. Often the chinstraps look wrong IMO and yet are always advertized as authentic.

There's an old joke on these inflation practices.

Two antique dealers have both a shop in the same street, the one just across the other. Years ago, one of them bought a wonderful renaissance cabinet and put it in his shop for sale; the other one takes a look at it, likes it very much and decides to buy it. He on is turn offers it for sale, at a higher price of course. The first one regrets he sold it, and buys it again, again for a higher price. This goes on and on for years, the cabinet just crosses the street but becomes more and more expensive every time. One day, a "normal" customer enters the shop where the cabinet is for sale and decides to buy it. The other dealer hears this and becomes furious. He runs to the other dealer and shouts "You idiot, why did you sell that cabinet on which we earned so much money...."

I noticed this Weitze and Regimntal swap also a couple of days ago. Weitze gives me the "heebe jeebes" for the most part since they told me that they have a and I quote a "pickelhaube doctor", which I understood as they can "upgrade" or "Frankenstein" helmets. You have to be very careful and very aware with most dealers.

Look who moved to Pickelhaube land!
Any good militaria dealers near where you now live Chris? :)

Yes, I arrived Sunday and besides some bad jetlag things are good in Cologne. I haven't found anything as far as dealers but trust me, I am looking. I think Beck is in Cologne and I was going to try and meet with Sergio from http://www.militaria-online.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to take a look at his stuff in Frankfurt. Right now I am on the hunt for some old haube and uniform related books.

Cool! I was in Cologne a long time ago (when I was only collecting stamps still!); nice old city.
I have an uncle who lives in Eupen at the German-Belgian-Dutch frontier, not far from you actually.
Enjoy and keep us posted on your (many to come) finds. I wouldn't recommend 'Dr.' Beck though

Two weeks ago there was the springshow in Kassel. Before the opening for the public one dealer buys from the other.
So Regimentals and also Weitze.
Weitze buys a lot at auctions, from Kube and Stauffer and other. Most things for the limitprice and not everything is to see on his website.

Hello Kuerassier,

This does not explain how one dealer puts an item for sale on his site for almost the same price as the limit price he originally bought it for at auction so to speak , not to forget the charges (23%). I do not suppose they act out of some sort of charity for us poor collectors? No, the answer is much more mercantile: or the object belonged originally to the dealer before the sale and he just got it back, or he bought it without the usual charges. This could also explain why at a recent sale at Kube's (the dispersion of a supposed old collection) some helmets were clearly recently tampered with. One of our colleagues on this forum had the bad experience with an ultra rare M1915 cuirassier helmet with a special plate.

No visor trim model?

Looks like the kind of things most (not all) dealers do and have always done... sweeten the pot with extra items, trade before shows open to the public (a good reason to get a table to sell of your 'leftovers'), trade / sell between dealers... exercise to the fullest the truism: Kaviat Emtpor.
Again, another reason I enjoy this forum.

trade before shows open to the public

This really happens at SOS. Thursday morning is rather frantic with dealers going up and down line. It really makes having a table helper badge quite valuable. Much of the “good deals” are long gone before the doors open.

You always want to get ahead of James, as most of the good deal are gone by the time James is through the show, next year I think we should hobble him.
Best
