Reichsarchiv WWI...

I was at a used bookstore today and they had 23 volumes of the "Reichsarchiv" from WWI, which is incomplete... I guess. It's all in German and they were asking $500 for the set as is (condition looked good). Now, I don't know anything about books so this may be very high or if it's a good price, then somebody here might be interested. The set is at the Renaissance Book Shop, Mitchell International Airport, 5300 South Howell Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53207, 800-627-6657 or 414-747-4526.

Ron,

There are actually two different types. The red books and the green books. If these are green and there are only twenty-three volumes it is not complete. And the price would be way too high. At the end of the month I am donating my sets of books to the University of North Texas history department which oversees their military history Center. Those are all fantastic books with their own editorial limitations. However resale is tough. The only folks who might have the money and the interest our institutions. Interestingly at least to me there is a heavily edited Canadian volume which is well supported by experts as a "English translation" of volume 1 of the red books. As detailed as it is it does not cover the entire volume 1. Rather you get excerpts. I'm not a fan.

Thanks Joe, yes, the price seemed high to me too, but their other books were very reasonable. I brought home a 1988 reprint of a 1912 edition of the Armorer's Art (medieval armor harnesses, not weapons), which is very interesting. Also picked up a history of airships and the Bismark by R. Ballard, both for around $10... which seemed good to me, but I'm not a book collector.
My wife says these were the green volumes. I really can't remember, I was busy looking for all kinds of books. :)
