Replica Experimental

Is there really a demand to make replicas of these:

I know the Model 8 is a rare helmet, but the replica looks awful!

I really don't know, but I'm sure they'll be showing up in the re-enactor trenches in numbers greater than in the actual war.
Here's a link to Karel's original:

I have an original Model 8 - as well as a Model 2, Model 5 an the Liberty Bell. I also have the Model 5A, which was tested prior to WWII.

I just can't imagine why anyone would bother with a copy that doesn't look close. I know I hear some collectors say the Swiss M18 looked like the Model 5. I don't agree.

Some times it is just the challenge to make it, for someone with the skill's.

Well compared to Karel's Model 8 and my Model 8 this replica isn't close. The visor is the wrong shape, the liner is wrong and chinstrap is wrong and the color is wrong.

I wonder why make one at all? These were never used in the trenches? The helmets were probably produced after 11/11/18. My research suggests very few were field tested. I think that is why so many are in good shape!

First generation rarely are the best replica's....

Well, let's hope those replicas don't get any better than this...

I don't have a problem with replicas as there is usually a way to distinguish them from originals, even when they're very good ones. It's when somebody starts selling them as fakes that we have problems. The reason I say this is that I really dislike it when re-enactors use original helmets (other than M1's and re-worked German helmets, Spanish modifieds, etc) for re-enactments. When I drove tanks for the Patton Museum in their 'battles', I used a US tanker that I had made, rather than one of my (many) originals.

Just my two (Euro) cents worth.
