The seller states: "WW1 German Spike Helmet. Came from local collectors estate sale. I don't know if this is period wwi or post war. Good condition". Apparently lots of people bid in the vain hope that it might be "period wwi", which it clearly isn't. Up to 23 (!!!) bids right now, and still four days to go.
It looks like one of the Hessen Antiques/Antik replicas, immediately recognisable by the misplaced vent on the rear spine, the Knöpfe91 that are about 15mm too low, the way the rear spine is fastened on the inside of the neck guard, the too small brads on the visor trim, and a few other issues.
I'm curious how far the price will go up.
