Once again, I've bought something, or rather, traded something.
It doesn't really fit into my collection. But what can you do when there's nothing else to buy that fits into your collection? But this pipe is so beautiful and in wonderful condition. I wouldn't have bought it from any other regiment. If you raise the tube, it's taller than me. 2 meters!

It is a wonderful but somewhat impractical souvenir of an individual soldier’s service to their time in uniform. Nonetheless, it provides a roster of ones fellow soldiers that a .veteran can place on a mantle or a living room wall in an era where photographs quickly faded and often grainy to begin with, so in a way most practical for past years.

These pipes were not made to be impractical souvenirs for sitting on the mantel but were made to be used and were a part of the pipe smoking culture of the time. Take it from an ex-pipe smoker they serve a purpose maybe thinking of a hookah pipe may help nonsmokers.

Like I mentioned siting by the fire and reading a good book while enjoying your favorite blend of tobacco hands free was only one of the advantages of a floor standing pipe.

Here are a few more ways you could enjoy your pipe and a good smoke while doing other things you just couldn't do while holding a smaller pipe.

I agree John. IMO, such a pipe might be impractical for a collector to display (I have one for the, "2. Garde-Ulanen-Regiment"), but like unit Bierkrüge they were used by the soldiers.

Great photos and nice pipe. Haven't seen ones this big before. I have a couple, but the largest is only half this size.
