Hello folks,

Can any of you share your wisdom with me concerning restoration of pickelhaubes? Specifically,

1. Is there any way to restore the shine/gloss on a pickelhaube whose leather has gone dull? It looks like shoe leather without any polish.

2. Is there any way to remove the cracks in the finish and restore a smooth lacquer finish?

Thanks for the good lead. I learned a lot from the website you pointed me to, including the fact that I can use shoe polish and brush, just like for shoes.

Now the question is the glossy lacquer finish. Has anyone tried to apply a brand new lacquer finish? Has anyone been able to fix/fill in the cracks in an otherwise OK original finish?
