Made some retainers for the out of shape helmets, although I don’t have many of those,
but ; wat niet is kan nog komen ,we say in our language. :D

The screw makes it easy to add more or less pressure. :-"

Yes they do Francis ,the black stuff is a foam sticker. One could also pull little pillows over the sides like the old feldzeichen is made.

I better get cracking then Keith :help:

Well done, Ed! =D>

I am using wooden forms in three different sizes. There is always one size that fits :D
Those with holes are allowing a wine glass to go through and support the helmet under the spike, as it should

Philippe

:thumb up: That is also a great way of keeping them in shape Philippe ,coz the back part of the helmet always tends to turn inside as the leather shrinks.
My retainers are not really meant to stay inside ,it is more a tool to push dents out ,but I also have some helmets with these wooden discs inside similar to your examples.

I still favour the antique hat stretchers which are adjustable. They come in different sizes and can be adjusted to fit a larger size if needed. I guess they are more of a restoration tool than say a permanent way of stabilizing a shell.
