A spiked helmet from the small principality of Reuss (now included in Thuringia). Rare as hen's teeth (only one battalion in IR96). In strictly as-found condition and never cleaned; I only added the empire cockade that was missing. Comes from a family in the Chicago area.

Did you add a Reich Portepee Unteroffizier cockade too?

I did the same on my JR76/RJR76, only the scarce Feldwebel hanseatic cockade was on the helmet.

No, Philippe, I placed a regular EM cockade (all I had available).
Knowing the family origin of this helmet it is extremely unlikely that the Reuss cockade was ever replaced. Therefore, added to the fact that the eagle is nicely gilded, this Pickelhaube was probably worn by some Unteroffizier.
