Hi Gentlemen,
Today I purchased a new named officer cap worn at about 1900-1910. I look forward to receive it at the middle of January and will present it here soon.
It´s a reserve officer cap of the badisches Leib Dragoner Regiment 20 with garrison in Karlsruhe.
The cap is named at the inside with Bassermann Jordan. I could already find some informations about the guy but I would feel very glad and honoured if Glenn could help me one more time with more precious informations because I am only owning 5 Ehrenranglisten!
Thats´s what I just found out for the moment:

- Rittmeister der Reserve (Dr. jur.) Ludwig Bassermann Jordan, born 24.12.1869, killed in action on the 11.08.1914 near the city of Mühlhausen / Elsass. He was mayor (Bürgermeister) of the small city of Deidesheim between 1905 till his death.

Hi Philippe,

Ludwig Bassermann-Jordan was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant der Reserve in Dragoner-Regiment Nr. 20 on 17 October 1893: His Patents of promotion were as follows:

Sekonde-Lieutenant der Reserve: 17.10.93 R2r
Oberleutnant der Reserve: 22.3.03 U7u
Rittmeister der Reserve: 16.11.10

He was a Gutsbesitzer and Dr. beider Rechte. A prominent wine grower, he was considerably well decorated in peacetime as seen in his entry from the 1914 Prussian Rangliste: Although serving in the Prussian Army, he was presumably a Bavarian citizen as Deidesheim was then part of Bavaria.

I look forward to receive Bassermann Jordans Mütze next week from Herr Semino.
I am now also owning a period pict of Ludwig (about 1890-1895). It was given to me by the members of its family that I also have traced on the internet and then contacted .They still are Gutsbesitzer and Weinbauer in Deidesheim!

I would very much like to see the picture. I'm starting to formulate ideas about early war officer casualties. I need to stop that or it will lead to yet another literary endeavor.

Joe, I wil post it soon here with the Mütze. I already have the pict in my system but it´s unfortunately not a JPG image, it´s a TIFF image, so I have to print it first and then make a scan (to do that, I will have to first ask my wife, because I have no printer and no scanner in my room...). Just a little bit patience :D

Great idea Joe :bravo: Just start the work now! It would be a great source of knowledge for us collectors! It´s always great to have a face near the headgear and the whole history of the guy who wore this headgear or uniform!!

I envy you Philippe for being able to contact the families of the original owners of these pieces and track down even more information. That is amazing. You are lucky though...if it were me I would want to buy them back! Still looking for my grandfathers WW1 medals..... John Foster, Highland Light Infantry, Dardanelles, Egypt, France, wounded 3 times.

At least I received last week the cap of Ludwig Bassermann Jordan from Mr Semino and even the "Personal-Bogen" of this Rittmeister der Reserve. I ordered some scans of it at the Generallandesarchiv in Karlsruhe \:D/ Very interesting stuff!

This guy was killed in action on the 11.08.1914, probably during a reconnaissance mission, two days after the first battle of Mühlhausen.
The cap shows some few moth holes, but hey, I don´t worry too much about that :wink:
Glad to have given back to this cap the history and the face of its wearer.
The pict of Ludwig was probably taken as he was 25 and entered the DR20 (1893-94) and was friendly given to me by the family.
