Robert H. Haskell III Estate Helmets on Julia Auction

This is what I came home with to add to my small but growing collection.

Small collection? I could only dream of finding some of those helmets you have on your table.

Is that a very rare Mecklenburg officer's helmet plate I see in the background in your home? And ulan and dragoon helmets plates too?

Thanks Ron, yes a nice mix. Sachsen, Baden line infantry, Baden IR 109 Mannschaften, Baden FAR, Saxon LGR 100, Ruess IR 96, Hesse LGR 115, Sachsen Zahlmeister, Preußen GzF B1 reserve w/Uberzug, Preußen GzF B2/3 w/Uberzüg, GR4 and GR7 Reserve. A nice pickelhaul lol.

With these my small collection stands now at 35 Imperial pieces, mostly officers and as with my other collecting interests, I try to collect only top quality whenever possible.

The wappens you see in the background are a friend of mines, with my new helmets on his coffee table.

Hi Bruno, I would have had them shipped but decided to bring them back. Yes I got stuck in Bangor myself, my rental car had 4" of ice encrusted snow in the morning and the drive back to Canada was not enjoyable.

I'm in LA once in a while, I have a place in Phoenix and we make the drive over to the LA area on occasion. A bit less snow where you are than Maine!

The IR115 is stunning indeed and the best of the ones I bought IMO. My compliments to your 115, it's always nice to have a published piece!

Hey Doug now with your "small collection" maybe you will think about coming to SOS next year. Best way to meet many of the players. You will even find Jerry there! :o

Hi Joe

I hope to make it to SOS next year, when I do go I am usually stuck hanging out with these unsavory German helmet collectors like Jerry. :P

I am trying to expand my collecting horizons with Imperial Officers pickelhaubes and meet more "normal" guys. :)

All above is just a joke of course, Jerry is a great fellow and have met him many times at the SOS. I am known in the German helmet collecting community, this is my "wall o' helmets", with my area of specific study SS helmets. I co-own with RoyA and another gent a helmet collecting forum called German Helmet Walhalla 2 as well, we have an Imperial section there where I have got to know Karel and maybe a few others here are also members there. It's always nice to see a familiar face!

I have visited Karel and inspired by his wonderful collection and by my good friends Tony Schnurr and RoyA I have ventured into the realm of Imperial the past year or so. I don't have a current picture of my "pickelwall" but I'll take a quick snap and post one up.

It's a wonderful study and I enjoy this genre immensely. I'd love to meet some of the collectors of the genre at SOS, the social aspect of collecting is the most enjoyable part for me.

Great! We will see you there I hope. That certainly is a social gathering for us. As far as German Helmet Walhalla the administrators kicked me off there twice for non participation. So I guess I had nothing interesting to offer them. We travel quite a bit. Sort of abrupt treatment. Seems like a great idea to me to put all the forums together but that is not to be… :-k

Hi Joe,

Yes it would be nice to have it all together I agree. The GHW2 forum filters non participants, nothing personal. It's just how it's set up and it simply deactivates the account which can be reactivated at any time by simply posting. Unless your talking about the old GHW forum that is but that forum is long gone now.

Anyway nice to "meet" you and maybe we'll meet for real at SOS.

Cheers
Doug

Hey Doug welcome to the forum! I am also one of your moderators as such on GHW in the Pickelhaube section with Roy (Puma)

Welcome Doug. Congrats on your auction winnings. I had heard that your drive back was brutal however, as a boy from the prairies I doubt that it was something that you have not encountered before. Great to have you with us.
