What in the world is this thing?

It's a non military Pickelhaube because there wasn't a combination of a cruciform spike base and round visor in the Prussian army... It must have been used by Police, Fire Dept, Customs, or other civil departments...
The metal trim on the neck guard is most uncommon for military hauben, but I suppose it was possible for non military hauben...

I don't know, maybe it's oxidation?
On the other hand, I have a haube with dark blue (black) fittings... It's a Dragoner style with square front visor, cruciform spike base and every metal piece is very dark blued or blackened (like a gun)... After more than 10 years nobody ever could tell me what it is...

Karel, could it be a wartime Dragoon that you have with a line eagle? I really can't see the Germans having a shortage of dragoon plates, but one never knows and if this was to be under an Ueberzug, it might not have mattered to the owner. I take it that this is without the back visor trim? Pretty interesting helmet though.

I really don't know what it is, but Dragoon is also the closest I got... Indeed no trim on the neckguard...
