Hello all, I’ve been in a posting mood today so I thought I’d share one last piece for today!

This is my original S.M.S. Karlsruhe Tellermütze,

By far my favorite cap in my collection, also my favorite German cruiser from the Great War.

If you play world of warships you may recognize this vessel, It’s insane to be able to play this ship in world of warships while looking at an actual cap from aboard it!

Some facts about the ship:

Launched in 1916 and commissioned the same year,



She was the second ship of the Königsberg class light cruisers,



This ship partook in operation Albion in 1917,



Took part in evacuation efforts in Flanders in 1918,



Scuttled at Scapa Flow in 1919 where she still sits today as a diving wreck,



A stellar piece and by far one of my favorites and I’m so happy to share!

That's a very nice looking example associated with a well known ship.

I also like these caps. I posted my Werft Division cap SMS Koenig Wilhelm a couple of years ago now.

I'm on the lookout for a nice example to the Matrosen Division to complement it but, they are considerably more difficult to find it seems.

Nice display and background story.
 
Very nice hat Dane! It's sister-ship, the Koenigsberg played an interesting role in the fighting in German East Africa during the war. The war there was very different than the meatgrinder in Europe and makes for a very interesting read.

Where does one find caps like these? I know they pop up now and again but I’d like to find more that are actually named to ships.

The Hohenzollern cap you have Kaiser still makes me super jealous 😅

I've been in the collecting game for a long time. This piece was acquired through one of the Ron Manion auctions years ago.

BTW. The story of the guns of the Königsberg is one of those stories that Hollywood should have made into a movie if it wasn't for the fact that the wrong side accomplished the feat of trundling naval guns from the Rufiji River across Africa to aid von Lettow Vorbeck's campaign.
