Just came home from a short holiday in France....Some musea. This is Saumur. Loire region.
-This French Cuirassier-Colonel Humblot-charged at the Reichshofen [North-east of France], start of the 1870-1871 Franco-Prussian War.
-He stood 2metres10. Bust measuring 1metre40...I am 1m78cm....As the good man is cheating for at least 2,5 Inches [standing on the plinth...]...Watch the framed photograph.
-The display has been not totally correct...watch the helmet placed much too high. But nevertheless...a giant. Imagine his horse.

Thank you for the post. I always wanted to go there, but failed in convincing my future wife when we crossed Saumur. There‘s a famous tank museum, too. https://museedesblindes.fr/

Best wishes,

GardeUlan

But tanks is generally considered modern cavalry, is it not the same museum? I also would like to visit it as cavalry is my favourite topic in militaria ( in Holland there is also a small cavalry museum covering both horses and tanks in the city of Amersfoort, nice but not very spectacular)

We intended to visit the Musée des Blindés/Tank Museum first.. but it turned out there was a huge miniature/modelling fair last weekend. Parking lot used for dynamic thing-activities. [Did that during the Cold War in Germany in the 80ies...]
😁😎. So...skipped that.

No, it is not the same museum! It is about 1,5 km apart.
-Oh yes. Extra nice Cavalry Museum in Amersfoort. Armoured Vehicles as well. Loved the disection of the Dutch Husar Busby . [I posted the pics somewhere on this Forum]

Hello,
If any of the kind members of this assembly have any questions about the presence of military museums in France, please don't hesitate to contact me. We have some very fine theme museums in France (French Empire, Franco-German War, WW1, WW2) not to mention the Musée des Invalides in Paris (Musée de l'Armée Française).

Occasionally I'll do a post mentioning the commented list by theme and period.

Merci!! Thank you!

That would be great Thierry! I only visited the museum in Fort de la Pompelle, in 1992, back when the collection was presented better than it is now.

Novion-Porcien: Musée de la Paix.
Between Reims and Charleville-Mézières. Excellent.
Covering the 1870-1871; 1914-1918 and the 1939-1945 wars.

🤩These are amazing measuring frames for cuirasses, thank you for sharing 🤩. Never seen before, really interesting (y)
