Saxon Landwehr Officer’s Helmet

Dear fellow Pickelhauben collectors,
today I'd like to present my new Saxon Landwehr officer's helmet. Unfortunately it is not 100% original, because it has been restored, but it consists of all original and correct parts.

I bought this helmet at the end of 2024 and it wasn’t in a good condition. Parts of the lacquer had flaked off in larger pieces, the officers' stars had been messed up with superglue and the cockades had been replaced with Prussian cockades, whereby one Prussian officer's cockade had simply been painted over the rust in silver and green.
But the stitching on the original helmet shell was still tight and the liner was in wonderful condition. At first I thought it had been replaced at some point, but I couldn't find any unused stitching holes in the sweat leather, which means that it must be original. I also liked the beautiful helmet emblem, which was exceptionally large with a diameter of 14 cm.

This also applies to the 12.5 cm long spike. The question of whether the wearer wanted to make a statement or if he wanted to compensate something remains open 😅.
However, I liked the basis of this helmet and thought it was too good to be taken apart and sold in pieces in case nobody would buy it. So I decided to restore it, or rather to have it restored by Wojtek ;). Once again, thank you for this wonderful job 🙏(y)🙏.
In the end, the most difficult thing for me was to find the Saxon officers' cockades, which are quite rare. But fortunately this didn't take too long 🤩.

The result is this beautiful helmet. Even though it is just a restored helmet, I really like it and I'm glad that Wojtek was able to give it back its former glory.
Particularly worth mentioning are the holes for attaching the emblem, which were reinforced with metal eyelets to prevent the holes from tearing out, just like on the M/95 EM helmet. I had never seen this before on an officer's helmet.
However, the helmet shell isn't a reworked EM helmet, as it is too finely crafted and fulfills all characteristics of an officer's helmet shell as well. In addition I've seen many a deviation from the norm on property helmets, which is why I don't doubt its authenticity.

In my mind this is just as good as an original as it is all original parts and put back how the original owner would have had it. And the finish restored by a master craftsman.

Dziękuję Polsko za wyprodukowanie tak wspaniałego rzemieślnika
