Hello,

Although I already have a stone-mint M15 Saxon e.m. pickelhaube, it does not have any unit or depot markings on it. I could not resist buying this nice example with correct depot marking "B.A.XII" on it, along with "12 Pi" for 12th Pioneer Batallion.

Saxony had only 2-Pioneer Batallions: the 12th and the 22nd.

I like the 1-piece stamped front plate which is a bit harder to find than the more typical 2-piece M15 front plate.

Photos are from the seller. I am not sure if there is a size, date, or maker mark inside, as seller didn't specify. I'll find out when it arrives later this week.

Best Regards,

Alan

without even seeing the helmet, I know exactly which one it is, you literally must have beat me by a second or two on Ebay, one second buy it now, then I click and it is already sold.

Great helmet Alan, glad you got it.

Hi James,

I had first put a "best offer" on it at $50 lower, waited about 10-15-minutes, and realized I'd be stupid not to buy it at the seller's "buy-it-now" price, even though it wasn't a bargain basement price as they sometimes are. I finally realized that someone else would jump on it and pull the trigger if I didn't hurry up and do it.

I was also tempted by the felt one just because of the rare cloth chinstrap it has. Sounds like Chuck got that one.

I finally see the "Attachments" button next to the "Options" below. I guess it's time to check my eyes for new glasses. 8-[

Best Regards,

Alan

Did the earlier Saxon pioneer's have silver hardware ?

I would imagine that they were.

Nice helmet.

Yes, the Saxon Pioneer Wappen was reversed; gild on silver instead of silver on gild, and all of the fittings were nickel instead of brass. The chinscales remained brass.

Nice helmet!
