Does this M15 Saxon Reiter really exist?

Thanks

According to Colonel Joe's website this helmet does exist:

https://pickelhauben.net/m15-steel-helmet-plates/

I'm not sure that the one on Ebay is original, but the configuration seems okay.
I would question the ridge in the back of the shell (not typical for a model 1915), and the M91 lugs have rounded points instead of sharp triangles.
It almost looks like someone took an earlier model shell and modified it to a model 1915.

John :)

Yup, they do exist, not sure on this one.

Saw a Garde De Corps M15 many years ago at Show, very cool.

Yes, the M15 Saxon Reiter helmets exist, with gray fittings like the Prussian Kurassier M15 helmets having a gray frontplate, spike, rivets, edge trim, etc. As with James, I'm not sure whether or not this one you're looking at is good or not.

Alan

One went through the Hermann Historica auction last year , link below. A nice collection of Saxon items, I won the 104.R. trumpet banner from the same auction, also below.

John, the ridge in the back of the shell is actually legit on the M15 Reiter helmet (the only exception). So are the M95 lugs with rounded and not triangular points (like on any other Kurassier helmet). Consequently, the original M15 Reiter chinstrap that accomodates these rounded points is extremely difficult to find; they are usually replaced with modified regular chinstraps.
I think the model advertised on ebay is original. I am only concerned that the pewter gray paint might have been "refreshed"; difficult to say without having the helmet in hands though.
I had posted pictures of mine a little while ago. I'd be happy to post these again if it was at all possible...

Very interesting. I had never seen a ridge on a Model 1915 before.
I was also completely unaware that a rounded M91 lug was ever used on a Model 1915.

John :)

I am no expert, but I agree that the wappen looks too big.

Edwin

Edwin, it does look big if compared to an infantry plate, but it is the correct size for a Garde Reiter helmet. Same on a regular pre-1915 GR tombak helmet.
