Hi guys,

I am not an expert on this shako and would like your opinion.

Got it as listed as a fake but the chinstrap is original. Not sure about the rest though.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Looks wrong to me:

body of the shako is not what it should be;
wrong cockades;
stitching looks off;
missing the two side holes for the bush;
leather 'strap' on the lower end of the body is incorrect;

and a few other issues.

I know very little about Tschakos. However, seen from the side the shape look completely wrong - even to me. The lower part of the body should follow the shape of the backside of head, and then towards the top should become considerably smaller.

Hi Amy,

Yes, the shako is a replica. Many of the aspects of the construction are completely wrong when compared to originals. Sorry for the bad news.

Best Regards,

Alan

No bad news Alan. I bought it knowing that it is a fake. Am after the chinstrap. I always learn something in this forum. Thank you.

It's a fake indeed, but one has to ask why would they make a complete fake, but put on an original chinstrap and center plate… Try to find an original strap at today's prices and then produce a complete schako arround it. Wouldn't that be a silly idea?

According to the dealer it comes from a vet estate who has died a decade ago. I looked through all his stuff and he mixes original and fake together. It's an old fake and not a very well made one but one would imagine the cost involved.
