These things are popping up a lot lately but I can't seem to say if they are the real thing or not... who speaks french?

Good pictures. No returns from what I can understand. The bidding is high!

Belle coiffure de sortie du 2ème leib hussard régiment, certainement un achat personnel, car pas de marquages. Garantie d'époque (achetée il y a quelque années chez un marchand allemand réputé). Vendue en l'état sans prix de réserve. [Beautiful hat 2nd Leib Hussar Regt., certainly a private purchase, as there's no markings. Guaranteed period made (bought a few years ago from a reputed German dealer). Sold as is without no reserve price.]

Mots clefs [=keywords]: pickelhaube,helmet,felmützen,leib husaren

Retours refusés [= returns 'refused' or no returns like you guessed]

Oh and yes, this post should read Krätzchen not Schrimmutze #-o

Also the seller says that "certainly a private purchase, as there's no marking", I see private purchase pronged kokarde but on a issued Mannschaften Krätzchen. Is that documented? I imagine a soldier could just buy the pronged kokarde and throw them on his issued cap. :-k

This cap just looks no way to be private purchase, the simple lining inside, the shape and fabric give it away.

Anyone else have any opinions on this one?? Tony? 8-[

And while we're at it, someone needs to explain the difference between Feldmütze (Field Cap) and Krätzchen (??) please...

What's showing up all the time are 2LHR2 officer's Schirmmütze with the "fuzzy" piping. Not Krätzchen.

If you were there at the time and you had limited funds and could not afford the nice leather sweatband and artifical silk lining, you could buy a private purchase Krätzchen in what was called "Kammerqualität" which is roughly "Quartermaster issue quality". I have several. Some have sewed on Kokarden like an issued Krätzchen, some have split prong.

Theoretically, no issue stamps indicates it is this type of cap, or is it one that was never issued? Who knows?

What is a Feldmütze vs. a Krätzchen? Semantics. A Krätzchen is German slang for a Feldmütze.

Thanks for the info Tony!

I got to say though I can't imagine those split prongs rubbing against my forehead all day and not leaving a mark. ouch!
