Schlagrings and Faustrings ???

Gentlemen,

My apology for inquiring about an unconventional item rather not fitting into a general panoply of war. However, I hope to run into a person knowledgeable about this particular combat weapon or rather brawler’s fighting devise. I am talking about a Bavarian / Tyrolean metal or brass rings (worn on a little finger ) called schlagrings, faustrings and/or stossrings. They were used in competitive boxing duels known as Robeln and in pub brawls as well. There are quite a few of those rings in German museums. There are few general descriptions of a practice found in obscure ethnographic works published in 19th century. Austrian and German authorities were suppressing this practice during 1880s yet it was suggested that some of the schlagrings found its use again for trench combat during WWI among Bavarian troops.

So, cutting long story short.

I am trying to learn more about the practice of robeln, about precise geographical spread of that practice in highland communities in Alps. It seems there is no contemporary specialist to be found , and while many other forms of highland sports survived and being revived the robeln remains in obscurity.

I also found most interesting drawing on Alamy, but no one can tell me about where and when it was published. I will greatly appreciate any bit of information, any advice or direction in regard to this research of mine.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, I have never heard of this practice or of these rings.
