Schutzhelm der Deutschen Fliegertruppe

Thought I would post photos of my most recent Imperial German aviation item here first. It is a scarce Imperial German aviators protective helmet or "crash helmet." These helmets were worn by both pilots and observers in the Fliegertruppen. This example is in very good original condition showing use. There are faint depot stamps on the inside of the rear neck flap.

#-o Seems I missed this one... anyway that's an uber rare helmet you have there! It's already hard to find a good leather specimen, but you managed to find the ersatz model... Congratulations.

Guys,

Thanks for commenting on my flying helmet. I was able to pick this one up from the October 2012 Herman Historica auction. These are very scarce and this is the first cloth/ersatz example I have evet seen offered on the open collecting market. I have only seen these examples in reference books. If anyone else has Imperial German flying helmet examples I would love to see them.

Awesome crash helmet Dan! Do you have the green leather wartime version?

Here's my only Imperial Flying Helmet--regular, not crach:

Please let me know what you think of it and the goggles especially (photos towards the bottom)...
