The Feldzeichen looks like the real deal this time but only 2 photos for such an important piece? [-(
 
Hey Keith,
The 2 extra photos were added after I first opened the link. Still no good though... I know he's ready to post some more but isn't it obvious that for such an asking price and a supposedly rare piece, it goes without saying that he should have at least side shots in there? :-?
Anyway, the plate washers--since there's not much else we can assess--seem too big and the plate screws too long, don't they? :-k I wouldn't want this hat on my forehead with such long screws pointing at it!
But again, the Feldzeichen does look like the real deal. At least it looks like it's properly made with the red center a layer underneath the white circle around it as per other specimens I've seen on museum samples...
 
I don't know much about shako's but I agree with Ron that these large screws are at least a bit odd.

After he reposted it for $2,000 ( \:D/ ); I advised the seller to post more and better closeups of all sides so he simply removed the 1st photo which happened to be his "best" one and replaced it with 2 incomplete and blurry shots of the sides that can't even be enlarged... #-o
Anyway, why bother, it's only a $2,000 old hat!! ](*,)

The body, according to the seller, is leather--not shellac-covered felt--but the inside looks like felt from here.
Weird to see the metal visor edge.

My thoughts as well. Looks like felt inside. It certainly doesn't look like a leather helmet.

There's no "lid" sewn on top of it. I've never heard of a shako body being pulled from a single piece of leather without a seam.
