These are the only two pictures I have this right now. This reminds me of a Saxon shako that was at SOS last year. what exactly is it? What are the two lines for? Is there a reference you are aware of? Did I miss it in Pietsch? Help me Mr. Wizard!

I have no clue Joe...obviously Prussian from the feldzeichen and the Landwehr shako badge. I wonder about the feldzeichen though....is it original?? The cenral black cloth should be stitched not glued as well as any other part of it. NO GLUE!!

Did anybody ever figure out what this is? I recently found one exactly like this, the visors were more gray than black, but everything else is the same. The person selling it says that it is a Prussian Landwehr Shako from around 1900. I can't find any information on this shako, nor can I find any photos. The white bands at the top somewhat resemble a Prussian Shako from the Napoleonic period, so maybe they are a later modification "for show". The body of this piece is felt. Any help is appreciated.

I suppose it could be a shako from a musician, police, fire dept, or even Beamter. Everything looks like it "fits", looks like it belongs. Nothing appears to be added or modified. I'll have to do more research before I consider buying it, and I'll have to find out what it actually is!

P.S. I have looked everywhere and can find no information on this. There is one like it offered on Ioffer, but it looks wrong, sort of a cheap copy of the one I'm looking at and the one pictured above. The one I'm looking at looks, feels, and smells original --- but original what?? I have decided to pass.

Another thought is that it was taken surplus and used in a theatrical / movie production. There may have been many converted to look like this.
