Things have been pretty darn quite around here, so I thought I would share my latest pruchase. Now to find a officer Shako to go with, have 8 or 9 OR shako's but no officer :(

Very nice James...do not have one of those or the officer hat to go with it! Excellent pics...have you been going to the Booth school of photography?? Brian

Brian good to hear from you, it has been awhile! Charles hooked me up with a photo box a few years ago, however, these are just general photo's that came out great!

R1 and I had a discussion about these recently, in that he or I have never seen an M1915 officer's Tschako with removable chinscales. You would need to have M15 officer scales to use the Überzug that James posted. All the officer Tschako Überzug examples I have owned or seen over the years, were like the standard pre-war Pickelhaube cover, no slit for scales. But these Tschako Überzug are interesting, in that they have the M15 slit for a chinstrap, but a slip on visor. So what are they? Are they private purchase Mannschaften? Or are there officer's Tschako with removable chinscales out there somewhere?

When you just untie the scales in the front, you can put them thrue the slits. Then you can slip on the visor flap, then the rest of the cover over the tschako. Fasten the scales in the front again and it's finished...
If the scales are removable, how to fasten them to their posts again while the posts are under the cover?
Sorry, but I don't see a problem in putting this cover over a normal Officers tschako with normal scales... Or am I completely wrong here?

Hi Karel,

In my opinion, placing frosted gilt chinscales on the outside of a Tschako that is clearly 1915 pattern, just makes no sense.

If the chinscales were M1915 removable on a Tschako, then like the M1915 Pickelhaube, the chinscales would be removed when the Überzug was mounted and a leather chinstrap placed on it.

Those curved slits on the side are designed for a leather chinstrap.

Hi James:

Wonderful Tschakobezug. You could always lend it to Paul to display with his new Seebataillon Tschako. Barring that, would you be willing to post your pictures in the new Überzug discussion HERE? Additionally, would you also post your SOS/09 pictures of Jerry's issued Flieger Tschakobezug?

Though I have yet to encounter an M15 Officer Tschako, I see no reason to doubt their existence. Of all Imperial helmets, the Tschako would require the least amount of retooling to comply with the new regulations. By comparison, something like THIS would be far more expensive to fabricate. As I commented to R1, I never expected to see an M15 Officer Tschapka, so why not a Tschako?
