I know this is no big thing but it just sort of made me blink as this spike base is not snug.

Very cool pic Joe and yes Hans needs to tighten down that screw post. What strikes me in your foto is just how incredibly shiny these hauben were when they were originally worn.
 
Joe, this picture is probably a century old; the leather on the shell must have shrunk! 8)

Is there a way to tell if the metal fittings are gold or silver? In other words, what Bavarian Regt. is this? Chevauleger?
 
I'm pretty picky about my uniforms, especially items I've purchased myself. He's much more tolerant than I'd have been... I'd have told them to fix it if it was always like that, or tightened it down.
Could also be Fuss Artillery or Jaeger officer... depending on when it was taken. I don't really know enough about uniforms to tell by what he's wearing. my bad. 8-[
