Would love to see a close-up of the richtkanoniere patch. Did the FsAR Richtkanoniere patches have only the one flame on the bomb? I know the FAR Richtkanoniere patches had 3 flames. Dick
Yes, the foot artillery Richtkanonier bomb had one flame coming out of the top of the shell. The Saxon artillery had the same single flame bomb patch for both their field and foot artillery.
Thanks Drake, Great! close-up. I did'nt know that the Saxon FAR and FsAR Richtkanoniere patches were the same, single flame on the bomb!! Thanks Chip for the help.
Chip; Thanks for the great picture. I can assume that this is a private purchase?? I have a Richtkanoniere patch for a Bavarian tunic that has some red threads in the flames, I was told this was a private purchase. My next question is what did the "issue" patches look like if they ever existed or were made? Also do you have a Richtkanoniere patch for the Mecklenburgh Artillery? From drawings that I have seen these were in silver thread? Dick
I actually only have three of these....an issue Feldartillerie one on feldgrau cloth, the same on blue backing and this Saxon one. They are not easy to find.
Even though it is rather fancy, I think this Saxon piece could be an issue example. I say this because the backing is a black cloth that was commonly used on issue insignia. The issue pieces were embroidered with details and were not plain.
Here are examples of Probe pieces in the collection of the Bavarian Army Museum. As you can see, they are embroidered and detailed and more like you would expect a private purchase patch would look like.
The first card says, "Probe - Die Abzeichens für der Richtkanonier der Fußartillerie..." It's dated 1888.
Thanks Chip for the great information and pictures! I'm just trying to get a better feel for the patches, badges and other awards for both the FAR and FsAR. Dick
