Shrunken Leather or Replaced Spine?

When a spine seems OK at the top but goes a bit beyond the neck guard rim, does it mean the spine is a replacement (of a larger size) or that the leather simply shrunk over time? :-k

I would say that that has been replaced. Leather does shrink, but not that much. When a rear visor shrinks or curls, it tends to pinch in around the spine, not shrink away from it like that.

That what I thought too but the spine seems to fit perfectly starting from the spike base all the way till the end when it goes wrong... and the rest of the pickelhaube looks OK/genuine; your classic M15 Prussian helmet. :-k

I've checked my M15 haubes and none have their spine going that far beyond the brim...
Has anyone else seen something similar?
