SOLD: Prussian M15 Garde Ulan Front Plate in nice condition, missing star

Great looking helmet Steve.

In my humble opinion, "I think it's "the exception", if these Guard Ulan M15 Wappens do show up with a guard star on them. I have simply only ever seen a handful of these so-called "M15 Guard Ulan Tschapkas" ever having the guard star still on the wappen.

It makes me literally wonder if someone simply took a star from an M15 Infantry Guard Helmet Wappen, and placed it on a M15 Guard Ulan wappen in order to make it look "complete". It is very difficult to say for certain or not, and to tell if they originally came with a star and simply lost the star over the ages. It's simply my opinion, and likely not worth much.

Why else would we see only this particular wappen, the "M15 Guard Ulan Wappen" far more times without the guard star, compared to the very few we ever actually see with a guard star actually on the wappen?

I've actually owned 3-of these wartime enlisted "guard ulan" tschapkas with the removable mortarboard. None of them had a guard star on the wappen. And the reverse side of each of the wappen on those helmets Never had any sign of them formerly having a guard star on the wappen.

Just my two cent's worth opinion, as I'm no expert.

Best Wishes,

Alan

I am pretty sure that back when Chip Minx was still with us ,
He told me that he had a Feldgrau Garde Uhlan helmet with the Garde star
So , we know Chip and I am sure that he gave it the once over
Not sure if he sent me a photo
If he did , I saved it
I will look at his emails on file to see
If he did it is now in the "twilight Zone " of AGM
He bought Chip's collection
and as far as I know the collection has still not been offered ?
I have given up thinking about it
and I don't think that I will live to see it offered

Another thing to be checked would be the size of the Garde stars
to see if the Foot troops star is larger than the Cavalry star ?
Thanks
Steve

That is a point I've been trying to figure out I've seen them with to completely different size stars.

The one on the top is much bigger.:unsure:

Hi John,

Thanks for the photo proof of the different size enlisted pattern M15 guard stars. This is what I have been wondering about, so it is great to see the photo evidence here.

I believe that the guard stars are also smaller sized on the guard ulan officer helmets. I would need to check to verify this.

Alan

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your nice posting here, I appreciate it.

Yes, I did see the M15 enlisted Ulan tschapka with the field cover that Chip M had in his collection. I wish that I would have taken a photo of it when I saw it. Unfortunately I regrettably didn't take photos of anything in his collection the couple of times he showed off his collection to me before his passing.

In retrospect I wish that I would have asked his two boys if I could purchase a couple of things from his collection. I regrettably chose to remain silent and not reach out to them about the two things I would have liked to purchase.

Not that I'm as old as you are Steve, being that we're about 20 years more or less difference in age, but I share your sentiments in that I too may not live to see any of Chip's collection being offered for sale.

Best Wishes,

Alan

My first reaction has always been that the Garde star applied to Ulan wappen would be smaller to match the smaller size of the eagle. However, it would not surprise me that during war time.....any star would do just to complete the wappen. In addition, it should be easy for those members who have complete M15 Ulan wappen to show us the difference with measurements.

Too bad that you didn't ask, all that they could have said was no.
I was able to get a few things , not close to what I would have bought
but they held out for AGM
the carrot was that a catalog would be published with only Chip's collection
and a memorial to Chip
Which has not happened
I am not trying to knock AGM , they have the right to do it their way
except that they no longer publish a printed catalog
and the money that I would have been willing to spend back then
has now long ago been spent on other things for my collection.

I found the photo of Chip's helmet in his file
Feel free to make yourself a copy if you wish to

sorry the program is not allowing me to add the photo
it tells me that the file is too large
Chip took the photo , so I don't know hat size that he sent it to me
I have no problem to view it
If you send me your email I will send it to you

Hi Steve,

Thanks for this message!

I'll send you a private message here with my email contact.

I can likely reduce the pixel size for the photo and post it here for you if you would like me to do so.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Yes , If you can reduce it
then please post it
I sent it to you via email

Many thanks Steve, I received the photo and I reduced the pixel size in order to post it below here.

Here is the photo of the M15 enlisted pattern Prussian Guard Ulan Tschapka with cloth field cover, from the late Chip Minx collection. It looks like it has the larger size star on the wappen.

Thanks very much Steve for sharing these photos of your tschapkas! They look fantastic!

Here is a photo of my two 2nd Guard Ulan officer tschapkas. The wartime M15 tschapka with the removable mortarboard has the larger size guard star on the wappen, just like the few other M15 guard officer tschapkas I have seen over the years.

My thanks to Steve, Alan et al. That solves the tschapka Garde Star size issue as far as I am concerned. I don't know about the rest of you but I have never seen an M15 Garde star for sale. I have a couple of neusilber spares but never an M15. Perhaps the situation is different in Europe??

Hi Brian.
I'm glad I'm not the only one, I've been looking just about every day for longer than I think is healthy and have never seen one anywhere. I've only ever seen the M15 Uhlan Garde Eagles in fact after buying this one from Alan I've not got two without the star this nice NOS one and a nice used one.

Just in case if anyone ever has an extra M15 Garde star they would like to sell I am looking for two but would be very happy just to have one :)(y)
