On page 417 of Stubbs -- he states "the ribbon curved in two sections across the Eagles wings. The two parts were soldered in position before silver plating and highlighting."

We've had this discussion before. Perhaps the old missing forum? Anyhoo, officer Bandeau are always seperate pieces soldered on.

A very cool rare helmet. It also appers to be one of those filz officer helmets (grey felt). Can anyone translate the printing on the inside paper sizing ring? At least, that is what I think that paper ring is for. Brian

Do you mean it's all just felt that's been coated with shellac?
Even the visor and neckguard?

You are correct, a totally felt helmet with the usual shellac/laquer coating. We have come accross this type of officer helmet before on the forum. There probably is a thread somwhere here on the site. I have actually worked on one (Guard Officer) for a customer of mine. Brian
