Solved! Question on Book by American author.

For me that little book started it all.
A collector friend loaned me his copy circa 1970
I saw the photos of the collections of the "old time " collectors
Walter E. Hartmann and Cliff Foster I sat down and made up
a want list .I said to myself ; " This is for me "
Cliff Foster was in the U S Army stationed in Germany
He bought helmets and steins and shipped them back to
my mentor Robert ( Bob ) M. Ledbetter in Memphis , Tenn.
I would go to Ledbetter's house and buy what I could

Born in Germany 1961
I was stationed in Germany 1981-1991. By then all the best was gone. No. Joke. No collecting Hauben back then...

Ordered from Canada. And... Let us hope the Belgian Customs are merciful!

And NO the Belgian Customs we're not....they charged me more than I payed for the book....😬

-a few hours earlier today: the customs handled some books I ordered from the US...guess what...passed...free...Nada...nothing...
To be honest...I feared for the worst on this order....

I had a collector friend in Stockholm, Sweden. Jarl Hartze. Jarl owned a music store . He cut a path
several times thru Germany. I got letters from collectors in Germany they wrote that Jarl was buying
all the spiked helmets in site .At one time he 13 Garde du Corps helmets with eagle tops .
He had more than one Saxon Garde Reiter with lion top. Jarl had a man who worked for him at the music store .
This man worked on musical instruments for Jarl. He was also in charge of the Maintenace of Jarl's helmets.
Jarl came to visit me a couple of times . He was a vert sharing collector friend .
Maybe that is why there was not much left to select from in 1981 and after .

Look at the early photos of the collections of Cliff B. Foster
and Walter E. Hartmann.

Steve - do you what became of Walter E. Hartmann's collection? Just found a nice copy of this book (which for some reason I didn't already have in my library), and I am pretty sure I have the Anhalt IR93 shown on page 30. Would love to know more.

Jeff ;
IF you don't mind saying where or who you got your I R 93 from, I might can tell you more. When Walt passed away, his helmet collection
was willed to his son. Over the years the son would consign (or sell ) several helmets at a time to Stephen Wolfe of Wolfe-Hardin dealers.
This happened about the time of our S O S. Wolfe would bring the helmets to the S O S for sale. Age of Kings seemed to always
get first look at the helmets . I know that James LaB or his brother bought a Bavarian Uhlan officers helmet that was from the Hartmann
collection . Some rare helmets were kept by Wolfe for his own collection. As you know Wolfe - Hardin no longer do shows . I can't speak to the older Max shows , as I never went to them. At the S O S Weitze always checked to see what Wolfe had . I know Weitze bought some of
Hartmann's uniforms from Wolfe for resale. The release of Hartmann's helmets seemed to dry up after Wolfe-Hardin departed the shows.
What the son still has and where they might go, I no longer know.
