Some of my collection.

hello. interesting info. thank you......I got that helmet with paperwork from a WW2 U.S. Colonel, he got it when he was in Germany just after the war.

I am in the process to obtain an enlisted pre war
shoulder strap from I R 17 on yellow
to display with my I R musician strap
I would like to find one also in green which they wore
after they changed A K
Tony Schnurr tells me that is one that is hard to find .
It took him years for him to get his example .
Also would like to find officers straps
for I R 17 with yellow and green underlay .

Your helmet display is very nice
seems your mission is to obtain examples
with different front plates
and when possible for them to have unit markings

Did you ever think about looking for a shoulder strap
to match each helmet and display the straps next to helmets ?
I think that would add to the display
not that there is anything wrong the way it is .
Thanks for the photos
Steve

Too much, when I first started buying straps I was paying $1 (USD) each, now I've seen some for more than$150.

well that is correct
$ 150 for rare , hard to find straps
Feldgrau seem to be the most sort after
you would only need feldgrau to go with feldgrau helmets
pre -war straps for the pre-war helmets not as bad
in some cases you could use any strap if the helmet is not marked
example ; your Prussian Garde ; any one of several straps would display

I don't remember any straps for $ 1.00 each
I started in 1970
I did pay $ 5.00 for some numbered Prussian e m straps

I remember gasoline at .25 cents per gallon
those days are gone
I still buy gasoline

I bought a Garde du Corp e m helmet with eagle top
for $ 125.00
I can't do that any more either

aicusv ;

What type of shoulder straps do you collect ?
enlisted ? Pre-war or Feldgrau ? or maybe officers ?

I am trying to focus on officers straps
all the different cyphers for the Infantry ; Cavalry
and Artillery .

A collector friend Mike Kelso is in the process
of having his book printed on the subject
of Imperial German shoulder straps .
It will cover all types pre war and feldgrau examples
I have seen the entire layout
It is excellent and loaded with strap examples in color photos.
Not to be missed if you are a strap collector

I'm looking forward to the book. My interest in boards is with enlisted boards. The prewar boards for infantry and artillery. War time boards for some of the specialty units. In other words anything that I think is "cool". I have some prewar cavalry boards but they don't interest me all that much. I'm always looking for boards that would match any of my helmets.
I haven't purchase too many boards in recent times as it really has to catch my fancy for me to lay out the money.

Best thing about boards is they take up a lot less room compared to the helmets, uniforms, or weapons. There're almost as good as buttons.

Where are located ?
Are you here in the States ?
Mike hopes to have the book ready and for
sale at the S O S 2017
maybe before then ?

Do you know Rob Hickson ?
He collects only Field Artillery straps
and has a great collection

If you care to send me a personal message
