After George advertised the availability of his Ostasiatisches Besatzungsbrigade Pickelhaube, I decided to take a stab at it. I understand there was heavy interest in the helmet prior to my arrival, but fate played the straight man and it came home with me.

You've seen it before, but this photo is the after-result of a painstaking cleaning in which embedded, encrusted old Brasso was removed from the Wappen, spike, Knopf 91, and chinstrap hardware. The eagle was not removed for this procedure (involving pointed toothpicks, Q-Tips, and denatured alcohol).

Having been bitten, I purchased another Reichs helmet to a Senior NCO Gendarme:

Finally, this phenomenal Walter Schot U-Boot Kriegsabzeichen proved to be irresistable. I've seen a lot of badges with the Schot name, or attributed to Schot, but none have come close to matching this example for beauty and detail.

To illustrate the point, below is a macro comparison of the Kaiserkrone of the SOS Schot badge with a common Schot fake:

Beyond the material treasures, it was great seeing everyone and having a chance to visit with you again. Hopefully, everyone will return home safely.

They look real cool together - I like that Colonial style wappen and the condition, as always with your stuff is superb. You obviously did a great cleaning job, the Ostatiatisches looks just fine.

Cool badge too.......;-)

Lost Skeleton knows his helmets, that's for sure! Great finds and in superb condition... That's the way we like it!

Hi James:

It was a mere pebble toss from where you were set up. The dealer's name is Richard C. Kosek. He also had a superb Model 1889 Sachsen Tschapka at his table.

Hi.
What's the inside of your new Ostasiatisches Besatzungsbrigade Pickelhaube
like?
It's an impressive item.
Regards,
Brad

Hi Brad:

The A.O. appears to be the one helmet that was issued to all regardless of rank. Consequently, the interior features a standard leather liner. George's original pictures and discussion can be viewed HERE.
