Hello to all,
I have a filz haube with a ink numer six (or nine) and what look like a "ghost" stamp on the nape protection.
There is some system to put in evidence these stamps?
Thank you in advance for your help

Franco,

The best method I have found is to use the filters in Photoshop software. Under the tab "image" "adjust" I start experimenting with different options on a picture of the marks. On leather helmets wetting the Mark sometimes helps. These are some attempts used by Mike Prictor in a recent e-mail.

very difficult to read – I have tried UV, flash, sunlight, wetting the mark

Not an easy thing to do -- if the ink comes off in your hand it is a very bad sign. Good luck!

Franco:
There are many types of markings that can be found on these helmets. The simplest are the regimental markings eg JR24 ( Infantry Regt No 24). You can look these Regt numbers up in reference books and find out the full name of the regiment, when it was formed and where it was based. The other common marking is the Army Korps marking eg BAXIV which is the army korps number for Baden regiments. We have a thread on this part of the web site where we are posting fotos of these markings and descriptions. Brian
