Strange "Bavarian" Helmet

Can anyone help to identify this strange looking "Bavarian" Helmet?
Is it a British or U.S. Pith Helmet with a cut down Bavarian plate?

I saw a plate like that on ebay last week, I think. Interesting that a helmet with a similar plate comes out this week.

Would it be a band helmet of some sort, or civil?
