Blade and scabbard are from converted French Gras bayonets.
But:
There are replica's !!! Beware !!!

Any of the old French stamps in the blade and/or scabbard ?
Patina looks ok to me.

I have a fake one. Yours just *might* be the real deal - though they are very very rare.

My Patent stamp is oriented the other way and uses a slightly different font. The cross bolt on yours is thicker. The crossbolt arms are better finished on yours. Mine also has a circled elephant with WWG - I think this indicates the Indian maker. Your scabbard is better and the frog is nicely aged - as mine is crisp and new and of a ring of leather with a snap rather than a buckle.

For 200 Euros it is probably worth the risk....I would buy it.

Still could be a reproduction as the originals are so rare there is little to compare it to.

In fact if you don't want it, talk the guy down as far as you can and buy it and sell it to me.

For those following this thread, we passed on the bayonet

Also, by luck, I ran across this ebay posting of what very well may be an original. The fine checkering on the release, the font of the stamps, the shape of the Greener elephant is compelling...
