Many Baden pictures seem to have different helmet Wappen. This group is from infantry Regiment 170.

The guy on the left not only has a Prussian Wappen but has a Landwehr cross.

But wait there's more! This guy has no Landwehr cross but he does have two holes drilled into the Wappen for the cross!

No thoughts?

It looks as though clearly those holes were made in the time frame. What are they for? They are too far apart for a 25 mm Landwehr cross. They are not even straight. What could this be?

Hey Joe,
My thought was, how often can you find a period photo of a Wappen that you hold in your hands? If that is not the same Wappen, then it is a mate.
