Thanks Grandpa

Congratulations, that is an excellent example! Exceptional to be given this by your grandfather.

Thanks for your replies! He was in the Oise-Aisne campaign and Meuse Argonne as a stretcher bearer in the 332nd Ambulance Co.. He gave me other WW1 artifacts which I have recently given to my son. We used to talk about the war often. He said he enjoyed watching the dogfights from the trenches but the worst part was going out to bring back the gas victims. He passed in 1975 but I feel very lucky to have known him!

Welcome to the forum Ed and congratulations to your helmet from your Grandfather.
Maybe you'll be infected by the Pickelhauben virus now and stay with us. We are always happy about new members (y)

Welcome here, and what a nice example of a steel ersatz helmet! Your Grandfather shared a lot of his times in the first world war with you,
which is a treasure in it's self. My Grandfather also was a veteran, on the German side, but I unfortunately never met him, he passed away in 1985.

Regards, Coert. :)
