The beauty of the sleepiness of time

I'd like to know more about this reservist's cross, which has a motto I've never seen before, mentioning neither Fuerst nor Koening. Can anyone tell me more?

Arran,

This is the Reserve cross for the Reserve and Landwehr units of the three hanseatic cities of Bremen, Hamburg and Lübeck.
This example above is on a EM named helmet worn by a Vizefeldwebel der Reserve having the fonction of an Offizierstellvertreter. His name was Karl Steinel, was mobilized in the 8. Kompanie RJR76, seriously wounded at the village of Bethancourt on the 17.9.1914 (battle of the Oise) and then taken prisoner in this village as the RJR76 has to move further, leaving its wounded soldiers in a temporary Lazarett. He died on the 9.10.14 in an hospital in the city of Rouen (Normandy) as his thorax wound became infected ans is still burried there...

Big size cockade (55mm) for the special rank of Unteroffizier with Portepee:

Offizierstellvertreter Karl Steinels helmet was brought back by a french medic, Docteur Audouard from the french 16. Infantry Regiment (Clermont-Ferrand) wo fought on the other side at those september days in this sector. I could purchase this helmet 2014 directly from the family of this medic.

Thank you so much for the information! I've never seen a reservist's cross from the Hanseatic cities before...

Brian,
Not a Filz-helmet but a Filz Tschako, maybe they are more common.

Exceptionally rare Philippe. But not leather. Its coated cloth often called "Alkor" here.

Thank you Tony for this explanation. First time that I hear the name "Alkor".
I presume thats what the french people are calling "toile cirée" and the german "Wachstuch", a kind of war Ersatz.
I have a similar liner from the same period (1915), but darker. It fits a saxon transition Ersatz helmet made of what I think to be vulcan fibers (between M95 and M15) worn in the Train Abteilung 12 (Dresden and Bischofswerda).
