The Colours of the Garde-Korps 1895

The assembled colour bearers of the Garde-Korps at Tempelhofer Felde, Berlin on 2 September 1895. Note the very tall officer in the group of 1st Foot Guards officers at the right of the photo - Hauptmann Otto von Plüskow, commanding the "Leib-Kompanie", the tallest officer in the Prussian army of the day and known as "Der Lange Plüskow" or the long (lofty) Plüskow.

Excellent photo. I see several on the left sporting the Order of the Black Eagle. I don’t see any of the fahnenträger wearing ringkragens, (or were those not issued until later?)

The arm badge, Ringkragen and Fahnenträger sidearm were all introduced per AKO of 15 June 1898. If the Fahnenträger held the rank of a Vizefeldwebel, he would continue to wear the Infantry officers‘ sword (IOD 89).

Here is the relevant cabinet order as mentioned above:

"The colour bearers of the foot troops - excluding foot artillery - and the standard bearers, are in future to be appointed by the regimental commanders and the commanders of independent battalions respectively.

They receive a badge for the tunic etc. as approved by me as well as a gorget, which is to be worn on every duty where the helmet is worn. Additionally, the colour bearers also receive in so much as they don't wear the officers' sidearm, a special sidearm.

The colour bearers appear even when the colours are not carried, without a rifle and sheathed sidearm.

The aforementioned insignia is only worn by the foot artillery NCOs carrying the colour on such occasions when the unit parades a colour."
