The EM BADEN deal...

Hey guys I was possibly thinking about purchasing this EM Baden M15. But my friend selling it and has not said his price range yet and neither have I. The negatives are cockades and chinstrap are obvious repros, the big crack in the right side of the shell, and the liner is pretty shabby. Everything else seems ok, I have not seen it in person, but I will be soon to inspect it further. So what would you say is a fair bargain price? I'm thinking in the $300 range. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks~

I dont know!? I'll try and get some photos up...

Hey Max..our general philosophy here is to not buy pieces that have major problems. Wait until you find one where at least the shell and visors are all good. Buying something with probelms is false savings. Those probs become yours when you try to resell. Buy the best you can even if it takes some extra coin. You are making an investment in buying these hats.....the better the condition the more they will increase in value! Brian

I agree with Brian. Baden M15 is a common helmet. Be patient and find a good one. This is all the fun of collecting. And leave this one where it is...

It's difficult for some of us who've been in this a while to look at a helmet with major flaws and go beyond what used to be parts prices.

For example, when I saw my first Pickelhaube, it was a complete M98 Prussian EM for $20. To me, in 5th grade, that was a king's ransom, but they were around $80 - $100 when I started collecting seriously. A good officer's helmet, no dents dings or problems was $300 for a line infantry Prussian. So when you call a $300 parts helmet a bargain, some of us kind of scratch our heads.

Like others said, wait for a good one. It's worth the extra money.

Thanks Ron, your talking sense, I'm only considering the EM Baden if its a dirt cheap price. And I only thought my Ebay bargain helmet wasn't a bad price because with the way prices are now a days, if I tried building that helmet with buying original parts , I would have easily spent more than $300. So I figured it wasn't that bad, but thats just my opinion. :toothy10:

Alright so I couldn't resist this deal, the price was too good. Offering back and forth for a while and in the end my friend ended up taking 100$ and I traded 6 WWII bayonets for this helmet. The knives met nothing to me, they were nothing special mostly Turkish and Czech surplus. Worth no more than 20 to 30 bucks each. Even though the haube is far from perfect but, its in one piece and it displays pretty good. The back visor has a faint vertical stamp of a "3" and a lower case "a". And also horizontally there appears to be a scratched in "A"&"C".... ? Here is some pics luv to hear your comments.

Oh boy... now that you said that, I've been staring at that mark for hours! NOW I can't really tell, it looked like a "3", but I think it's possibly a "B"!
Looks like there is a faint line at the back part of this "3"...or"B"!!! Its hard to see it clearly. I need to find my magnifying glass. This is going to drive me crazy. Do have any info on the Regt. marks?... Either 3a or Ba?.... What do you think about the big A.C. marks? Possibly the soldiers initials?

Dunno, Max - if it's a 'B' it could be for 'BA XIV' which is what I think it should be for Baden. Don't have my ref. books here. That would need to be a capital 'A'as is the 'B'. Thats for 'Beckleidungs-Amt' - the clothing issue dept. 'XIV' is for the corps.

The 'AC' looks scratched on by someone - it's not an issue mark.

I have seen the letter "B" previously and I am not really sure what it means. I've only seen one example and it was thereby itself. It was on a Prussian helmet -- M15. -- no other marks.
