A while ago I posted two helmets of the same guy who was an Einj. Freiw. in IR153.
I was very happy to find an officers model of the same regiment.
This haube was produced by Awes Marke. It looks (and feels) as if it's a felt haube on the inside...

Yup, just super! I have a similarly constructed infantry officer helmet, but it's been abused, used and messed up... Unlike these, it was originally of a very poor quality.

Terrific condition! That type would be extremely rare for any state but finding on for IR153 is incredible.
 
Superbe...definately a filz helme with lacquered exterior. I worked on one that had a green felt interior. Very nice indeed.

Is the neckguard edge binding on such a lacquered felt helmet made of leather?

Disagree. I have several AWES and they all appear to be fibre. Unlike Depaheg who left their fibre shells plain, AWES coated their interiors. It appears to be felt sprayed onto a sprayed glue. Reason being, in holes etc you can see the black of the fibre shell.
 
Well T, I do not have any Awes helmets in my collection. The vulcan fibres that I do have not been sprayed. Consequently, we will have to accept your opinion. My thoughts on awes is that they were an up scale manufacturere Regarding the rear visor trim edge my officer has the usual leather trim.
 
Actually I was waiting for some reaction on the felt interior... and at last Tony nailed it. Its indeed hard to see, but it's indeed like he says (I guess he just knows everything about pickelhauben...). :notworthy:
