The Kaiser in a Hessian uniform

Not often seen by me , the Kaiser in a Hessian uniform.
I think I R 116, the regiment that carries his cypher on their shoulder straps and epaulettes
I see another officer in the uniform of I R 116, most likely the regiment commander?
over to the left, the Grand Duke of Hess in the uniform of L G I R 115
a General to the right
the flags appear to be Prussian

Jens is absolutely correct, it is indeed Hermann von Eichhorn. The field officer between and behind the Kaiser and the Grand Duke is the then Oberst Kurt von Lindenau. I should think around 1906-07.

Glenn.
Thanks for your additional information.
How often have you seen the Kaiser in a Hessian Uniform?
I wonder what the event was ?

Superb photo,
It's well known that when the Kaiser reviewed a regiment of which he was the “honorary” commanding officer, he adopted the regiment's colonel's uniform. For example, when he visited the KIR145 in Metz (the King's regiment), he wore a helmet with a large Grenadier eagle, and collar tabs bearing his monogram.
The photo below dates from 1914, so not everyone has the Grenadier-Adler yet, nor does the Kaiser.

I like that photo and I have 2 of that photo
One is a postcard and the other a large photo.
I have followed the uniforms of the Kaiser and his shoulder straps
I always look at the videos of collectors who have had private tours
of the closet of K W II and his uniforms at Doorn
I have never seen an example of a Hessian uniform of K W II
that is an Doorn
I have never seen a photo of his Hessian I R 116 shoulder straps
so, I just wonder what happened to that uniform
I have quite a few photos of the Kaiser and for the most part
he is wearing either the uniforms of the G d C and the 1 G R zu Fuss
and often a Prussian GFM uniform
thanks for the post

P S
on the site of Age of Kings , they posted a video of their
private tour of the closet
I think that Francis also had a private tour
The head of Doorn seems to be quite a nice gentleman

Hi, yes - the Kaiser wearing the wrong helmet - but this was in May 1914.
When the Emperor in 1914 visit the Inf.-Rgt.145 in Metz, the valet de chambre took out the false helmet (with the old emblem) for the Kaiser.

Great post
Thanks

Thanks a lot Jens, that's the advantage of the forum, there's always someone with a passion for a particular subject to teach us about it.
Bravo, for these beautiful images...

Steve,

I will have a dig through my stuff. This is a schematic depiction of SM's uniform produced by Paul Pietsch.

Super print
I have never seen that one before?
What publication is it from?
I wonder what happen to all of this?
I have not seen any of this anywhere
Could it be in a Hessian Museum?
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

from the publication "Quartier- und Stammliste des deutschen Heeres, Stand 1. August 1914" by Paul Pietsch.

This from the regimental history of IR 116. His Majesty visited Gießen on 1 May 1906 and this is the occasion of your photograph. As described in said history, he rode at the head of the Fahnen-Kompagnie into the festively decorated city.

Regards
Glenn

My understanding is that the Kaiser on his Prussian epaulettes and shoulder straps
wore the cypher of his grandfather because he was his adjutant.
However, he did not wear his cypher on his non-Prussian epaulettes and straps.
Is that your understanding?
Thanks
