and 1910 by 5 Kp
the photo was taken 1912
Next 14 soldiers of Kgl. Saxon 11 Inf Regt 139 / 9 Kp photo taken 1908
all 14 soldiers are wearing their Kings Prize they won in 1906 & 1907

The top photo is interesting.

The Fahnentrager is the only person wearing a Kaiserprize. If the 166th won the prize as recently as 1905 why is he wearing the prize in 1912 when as far as I know, you were only allowed to wear the prize for one year after it was awarded?

Steve,
the NCOs keep the badge as long as they are in the same company in the regiment.
;) Best regards, Jens

Your question is answered by Jens .
good question to bring out that fact from Jens

As I was looking at my badges I noticed subtle differences in the crown: in the cut-out and the top. This one only has a partial cut-out and top.

I am sure there were numerous manufacturers of these, not unlike any other badge. I am not concerned with the one we are discussing above.

A new Kaiser Prize for the collection for 1910 .
Something different , so that is why I bought it.
Dated 1910 , but it has the extra leaves under it
which would indicate that it was to be a double date Prize .
There is not another date on it
and as of 1902 this old style double date prize was no longer to be used
the backplate has the set of holes for another date ?

That's an interesting piece, Steve
Yes, I agree. However, I can't explain it.
One of the factors that drove me to buy it
was that it came from the collection of a friend
who has passed away, Jim Hall.
According to Paul Peitsch that style as not to be used after 1902

Very interesting example Steve!!

Yet more proof that we haven't seen everything yet.....
Steve:

A very interesting item given that supposedly after 1902 these additional Prize designs were phased out. Even stranger that the leaves indicating an additional date are present but the date itself doesn't seem to have ever been added.

Nice item to have in your collection.

Re. the 1902 anomaly, I found this King's prize in my collection of extant prizes which further illustrates that the 1902 rule doesn't appear to have been observed strictly.
