The Mexican Haubes

That is a Haube to be proud of, and in very good condition for a collection, many congratulations.
since the original pictures of the Garde du Corps no longer appear in this thread I'll contribute my own from the Vienna museum back in 2012.
Forgive the poor quality - really bad lighting in the gallery and my shaky hands : I was taken aback to find them there and walked around in a daze the rest of the day!

What a coincidence, I was there last week in Vienna and took some pictures of these extraordinary Mexican helmets 😀 I‘ve been asking myself if they were in service before the execution of emperor Maximilian?

Best wishes,

Many thanks Garde Ulan, you put my lousy photographic 'skills' to shame! So this what they have done with the display since the reorganisation and It is SO much better, I'll have to go back soon to see these beautiful Haubes properly. Hope you don't mind if I copy your pictures for my own files?
Judging by the presence of two storage cases with them back in 2012 I would assume they were never shipped to Mexico? I don't know if there were others already in service there.

Yes, sure, you can of course save them. 😀My guess would be that these special helmets were produced in Austria, but never shipped to Mexico, due to the shooting of Maximilian. I remember Hermann Historica was selling an example in 2018. https://www.barnebys.de/blog/krieg-und-frieden-militaria-und-kunsthandwerk-bei-der-hermann-historica

It would be interesting to know how HH can be sure that only forty of these helmets were ever produced, even more interesting to know if any examples (Probe, for approval by Maximilian?) survived in Mexico? Now THAT would be something remarkable for Mexican heritage.
