....."thing"......Yuuup....

Mayo (what else)
or
Real Belgian Pickles of D&L (BTW...they have some BBQ sauce as well...)

Francis

For a real Belgian, it can actually be only one thing... mayonaise. Not the Dutch mayo, that's to sweet, I believe they put Sugar in their ... how they call it?... fritesaus...

The French would not dip fries in anything.
I never eat fries but if I would that's what I should do. No dipping.

British have their fries with vinegar :-k But I prefer the Belgian mayonaise.

Edwin

Salt and vinegar to be precise! Some barbarians have them with curry sauce. Don't ask, I've no idea what's in it.

'Frites' are called 'chips' in the UK and generally eaten with fried fish. However, here in Scotland chip shops also serve them with pizzas, black puddings, steak pies and Mars Bars, all deep fried. Not surprisingly , the Scottish early mortality rate is very high!

Sorry,I know I'm digressing from the purpose of this thread!

That is an interesting question. :D
As a Belgian, I have to say I voted for the traditional mayonaise \:D/

There are LOTS of dipping sauces available here, some that only exist in Belgium... Tastes are different everywhere.
I've friends in France that tried some dipping sauces here and loved it but couldn't find it in their home town. So now, every time they come, they make provisions. :D

I hope you tried the Brazil sauce Joe. I don't think it exists in many countries and it's awesome [-o<

P.S. As a first post on this forum, I wasn't expecting to comment on dipping sauces :laughing6: :D :D

Hi all,

I know I'm late in getting this response in. In Southern New Jersey a local favorite for dipping fries is brown gravy. The brown gravy is normally Beef, but over the holidays Turkey gravy with a caramel based coloring agent to brown it up will do the trick. I, for one, prefer Dijon mustard. After all the fries are "French", right?

Absolutely! It is common knowledge that frites were invented, engineered, developed and validated by the French. Adler will confirm...

Brown gravy??? :-x That's a new one. I don't know who invented them but the Belgians sure have good ones. I have seen many attempts here in the USA to match them with no success so far. They also do a great job in beer. However, Belgian barbecue is a total zero. Dry…

Wasn't this thread about Belgian french fries dipping combination Joe :-" ? And now you're starting about BBQ again \:D/ ? Hmmm.....

Can't help myself – yesterday the doctors said I was fat. That is depressing. I drink too much and I eat too much barbecue. Can't afford the french fries because of the carbohydrates. Getting old sucks.

Yuuup !
Join the club !

I don't mind !
Do enjoy a good meal and a nice beer !!!
I'll have some spare ribs this evening with a fine Halen (Gouden Ster) beer (brewed after a 100 year old recipe)
(my excuse...I have to make sure that I finish the crate so I can bring a fresh load of 24 bottles in August !) :D

Defenetly mayonaise and brown gravy.
BUT if the mayonaise is not homemade I go for Hellmans mayo, it is British but far the best mayo I ever had!
Hard to get here and expensive if you do, but every tripp to the UK, by me or a friend, is a way to get it!
