The old leather edging issue

I know we have beat this horse but in the book Kraus Jürgen, Verlag Militaria , Austria , 2004 (English) -- the one volume Kraus "The German Army" page 70.

What sort of visor trim is this? I thought the general consensus was no leather type trim on filtz helmets?!?! I'm writing up the scroll helmet deal and just noticed this. I know it is late and I have had one beer but am I missing something?

Yes, it states 'leather' in the caption, but that is just a caption. There are several mistakes in this book, possibly due to translation, but overall, still a superb book that everyone should have.

I am quite sure the edging on that felt helmet on p. 70 is the same as the edging on my cloth-covered Filz helmet; it is not leather. It is green Ersatz Leather trim (cloth that has been coated on one side) In fact, the color, texture........ perhaps the same manufacturer?

Thanks! I'm two beers into it now but still the color on yours is quite distinct. I wonder if the cork liner that has been noticed is of the similar manufacturer? Thanks for sharing that. I'm far along with the scroll helmet thing but I do not think I will finish it before I leave.
