I have 5 uberzugs in my collection, I started my posts with JR 52 but will be adding the rest shortly. This piece is the most frequently found officer private purchase cover with the elasticized sides, DRP ink stamp and the cardboard reinforced peak mounts. The price of these of course goes up if there are regimental numbers, either in cloth or paint/ink stamped on the front. This is the cheapest original uberzug to be found, the reason....they were private purchase, officer so, many have survived.
There is a double thickness of cloth stitched into the spike cone to prevent the spike tip from tearing through the cloth.
How did I end up with 5 in my collection?? I bought 3 from an older collector back in the early 1980's he had a cardboard box full of them, which he had bought from a WW1 vet. I bought this one, another officer, stamped to JR 58 and a very special Hessen Arty 61 officer all of which will be posted here on the forum.
